Pressure
on housing has led to a large number of applications to
demolish old buildings and replace them with higher density residential
buildings, such as flats. This can cause concerns about loss of
historic buildings and also loss of local services. In this case a
hotel was replaced with flats. Two planning applications were submitted
for the Ashley Court Hotel & Ship Aground Bar to be demolished,
spaced some 5 months apart. This is not uncommon as adjustments to
development plans are made.
