PlanningFinder Case Studies

Listed below are some planning applications which you might well care about if they were happening in your locality, but about which you wouldn’t receive a notification letter from the council unless you lived right next door. For example, pressure on housing and the popularity of supermarkets has created a tendency for demolition of local business premises such as local shops and other amenities to make way for residential use property such as flats or high density housing.

Sometimes you wouldn’t receive a notification letter even if you did live next door. Everyone’s human and process errors can happen. Unfortunately, when things do go wrong in the planning process, the consequences can be very serious indeed. The resulting misery for those caught up in the problem can go on for a long time before it is put right. Mistakes such as failure to send neighbour notification letters or to consult enforcement bodies such as the local authority’s Noise Pollution control team do happen occasionally. There were about 30 such cases nationally last year.

We believe informed opinion is the surest safety net against mistakes and the best guarantee of good quality in new development.
